Swain & Co. solicitors are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a Legal Services Commission contract to carry out legally aided mediation from 1 December 2012. This means that mediation will be free is you are eligible for legal aid.
We are pleased to be able to offer another service through legal aid, especially as much of the funding of family law advice is being cut from legal aid from April 2013.
By offering legal aid mediation we are upholding our commitment to clients and promoting the availability of assistance for all whatever their financial circumstances, which is a core objective of this law firm.
Family mediation is available to divorcing and separating couples, regardless to whether they have children or not.
Mediation aims to improve communications between separating couples to help them reach agreements in respect of children or financial matters and to avoid the acrimony and costs of court proceedings. This is especially beneficial if children are involved, as often parents will need to co-operate over their care and upbringing for long into the future.
Family mediation can help couples to settle:
- arrangements for children
- financial issues
- division of property and assets
- other practical issues to do with divorce and separation
Not only can family mediation for separation and divorce be beneficial for the whole family, research also suggests that it is often less expensive and takes less time than traditional court based divorce.
