The 2017 Koestler trust exhibition opened at the southbank Centre on 21 September and will be running until the 15th November.
Swain and Co has a proud history of sponsoring an award and are delighted to have done so once again. This year we have sponsored the under 18’s special award for painting.
The exhibition entitled “inside” is aimed at getting people talking about the Criminal Justice System and now is the perfect time to do so.
The Koestler trust supports prisoners and enables prisoners and those detained within our mental health and immigration systems to showcase their artistic/creative talents.
Each year the quality of the pieces displayed at the exhibition seems to improve.
“The exhibition comes at a poignant moment in our prison system. Recently, accredited offending behaviour programmes have been pulled on the basis they appear to actually increase risk, rather than decrease risk.
The Arts has long been associated with an ability to decrease risk, but it has not always been given the weight it should. Perhaps now is the perfect opportunity for this to be built on.
I have always enjoyed attending the exhibition and look forward to doing so this year. Each year I seem to buy pieces and proudly have a number of pictures displayed at home. I’m beginning to run out of space so perhaps its time to purchase pieces for the office.
I am looking forward to learning more about the piece sponsored.
The Koestler trust are an excellent charitable organisation whom deserve a lot of credit for the work they do.”
