Joanna Dean is a member of the following staff departments:

Joanna joined Swain & Co in June 2008 as a Trainee Solicitor when this firm opened its Liverpool office.

Joanna graduated in BA (Hons) European Studies and spent a number of years living in France before going on to study law.

She qualified as a Solicitor in December 2009 and is now a Metal Health Supervisor.  She has also qualified as a Law Society Mental Health Review Panel Member.

She regularly represents clients at Mental Health Review Tribunals and Managers’ Hearing Meetings in a wide range of settings.  She also has experience in advising in relation to Nearest Relative issues.

Being one of the few firms in the UK to secure an LSC High Secure Hospital contract at Ashworth Hospital, she is a regular visitor to the hospital and has experience in forensic and complex cases.

Joanna specialises in prison and discrimination law as well as mental health.  She undertakes advocacy at parole, recall and adjudication hearings.

She is Institute of Prison Law accredited and is a member of the Association of Prison Lawyers.

Her background includes working as a Discrimination Caseworker at Citizens Advice Bureau as well as prison, mental health and community care.

Joanna is committed to Equality and Human Rights having undertaken extensive voluntary work.  In her spare time she supports the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transsexual (LGBT) community.

Her personal interests include cooking, yoga and travelling.
