Nicola Whitley is an Associate and a Family Law Solicitor and works at both the Havant and Southampton offices.
When asked what she most likes about working for Swain & Co, Nicola answers, “I enjoy the friendly atmosphere among the staff and my teammates.”
Nicola qualified as a Solicitor in May 2009, having completed her training contract with Swain & Co between July 2007 and May 2009. Nicola also worked as a Paralegal at Swain & Co between 2004 – 2007 whilst completing her law degree. She has previously worked within the Prison Law department. Nicola became an Associate in 2013.
She is a member of Resolution for Family Lawyers and is committed to achieving a constructive resolution when there are family disputes. Nicola is also a committee member for the Young Resolution groups for West Sussex and Hampshire. The committees organise several events each year to raise awareness of legal issues and to raise money for charity. In 2012, Young Resolution West Sussex held a charity auction and raised over £1700 for the Chichester Child Contact Centre.
Nicola practices in all areas of Family Law, including, Private and Public child care, Divorce, Financial matters, Cohabitation and Separation and Domestic Abuse. Nicola runs the firm’s Domestic Abuse department.
Nicola works with many clients who are in very vulnerable situations and in a difficult place in their life.
In talking about her job, she says, “I love to be able to act quickly and efficiently to help ease the difficult situations that my clients are going through”.
Nicola has handled cases with complex elements such as abduction, international relocation and domestic relocation. A highlight of her work was successfully appealing a Circuit Judge in the Court of Appeal, which rarely happens.
In 2006, Nicola graduated from Surrey University with a law degree and completed the Legal Practice Course at Guildford College of Law in 2007.
Nicola is of Gibraltarian descent, speaks Spanish … oh and has a secret love for the music of Cliff Richard!
