Vicki Wright takes on the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of this personal injury claim against employer

Every client and every claim is different. This case presented Vicki Wright with many challenges. But, she does it again!

Our client suffers a serious knee injury when he slipped on wet floor at work. He wants to make a claim against employer for personal injury.

Vicki is asked to investigate the claim against employer.

What happened?

The de-humidifier on the wall is running and is turned up excessively high.

There is a puddle of water on the floor which our client cannot see.

Our client is pushing a bin of shredded paper.

There are no warning signs and he still has not been provided with his safety boots.


He slips on the wet floor, falls awkwardly and twists his knee.

The injury is severe and debilitating.

What makes it worse is our client has a pre-existing problem with his knee despite having no problems with it before the accident occurred!

The good

Our client undergoes an arthroscopy and physiotherapy.

Vicki secures admission of liability on a 100% from our client’s employer – his employer is totally to blame.

This makes the situation so less stressful for our client knowing that he will recover compensation.

His employer continues to pay him in full.

The bad

After a few months, our client is only receiving Statutory Sick Pay.

Our client calls Vicki as he is very stressed by this turn in events.

He is desperate to get back to work as soon as possible. He uses his bike to get to work. Vicki persuades his employers to pay for taxis to and from work until he could return to using his bike.

The Ugly

When Vicki tries to negotiate settlement, it was discovered that the Compensation Recovery Unit Certificate was wrong.

The insurers are happy to release compensation, minus the loss of earnings.

Vicki argues this and the insurers have to appeal to the Department for Work and Pensions.

This takes some months to resolve.


But, it does resolve and Vicki gets our client just under £6,000 compensation.
