Emma McClure of Swain & Co gave a talk on forensics and miscarriages of justice for the Merseyside Skeptics Society (MSS) to a packed out room on 21 January 2016.
The talk was very well received and highlighted the difficulties of ensuring access to justice and fair representation in the face of legal aid restrictions. Here at Swain & Co Emma and our whole prison team are committed to fighting for the rights of our clients both their in cases and in the wider community through events like this.
The MSS usually ask for donations to cover expenses but as Emma is local to Liverpool and had minimal expenses the MSS very kindly offered to give any donations to local group Young Legal Aid Lawyers Liverpool(YLAL). The audience very generously donated £260.00 to YLAL.
Young Legal Aid Lawyers is an organisation that Emma helps to organise and is close to her heart. YLAL campaign for access to justice in the face of cuts to legal aid and also for maintaining access to and diversity in legal aid work. Emma is scheduled to give her talk at various groups around the Country in the coming year.
