Vulnerable families on housing benefit could be moved out of London due to housing benefit caps, under plans being drawn up by local authorities.
Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea and Newham are councils considering proposals to send families away to Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Stoke on Trent.
The councils are accused of ‘social cleansing’ after Newham council wrote to over 1000 housing associations asking them to accommodate families.
Swain & Co. condemn this proposal as families should not have to be uprooted from schools, support networks and jobs. Councils must take into account connections and associations.
