Specialist Hampshire Mesothelioma Compensation Claim Solicitors
Every year 2500 people in the UK are diagnosed with Mesothelioma.
What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma, or ‘Meso’ as it is commonly referred to, is a devastating form of cancer which is caused by the inhalation of asbestos dust.
The two main forms of Mesothelioma are;
- Pleural mesothelioma – where a cancerous tumour develops in the lining of the lungs
- Peritoneal mesothelioma – less common than pleural mesothelioma, but is where the tumour develops in the abdomen
The symptoms of Mesothelioma
The symptoms of mesothelioma include:
- Shortness of breath
- Chest Pains
- Pleural effusions
- Weight loss
- Chronic cough
- Excessive sweating
- Fluid in the area around the lung
- Swelling of the face and arms
- Difficulty swallowing
Many of these symptoms are commonly associated with other conditions and diseases, but those suffering with mesothelioma are likely to have a number of the above symptoms over a few months before diagnosis.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we would urge you to see a GP as soon as possible.
Where asbestos was commonly used, mesothelioma can be associated with many professions such as electricians, boilermakers, builders, carpenters, pipe fitters and laggers, and plumbers. Mesothelioma cases are not limited to these professions, anyone who has had contact with asbestos is at risk, including secondary exposure such as at schools, industrial buildings and, of course, family members.
Mesothelioma can take decades to develop, and there is currently no cure.
