Christine Sholto-Douglas is a specialist Child Care Solicitor at Swain & Co Solicitors.
After a long successful career in the beauty industry, Christine was inspired to pursue a career in law by her own litigation in the Family Court and Child Support Appeal Tribunal.
She graduated from the University of Kent in 2006 with an upper second class degree and a Diplock Scholarship from The Honourable Society of The Middle Temple to enable her to undertake the Bar Vocation Course (BVC).
She completed this course and was called the bar in 2008. She is a non-practising barrister.
Whilst looking for pupillage or a training contract she worked voluntarily as an adviser at the Citizens Advice Bureau. It was here she realised that her legal future lay with helping society’s most vulnerable people in legally aided work.
Whilst in the Housing Department, she was in regular attendance at local courts under Housing Duty Scheme and prevented numerous evictions from homes.
Whilst working within domestic violence, she successfully advocated numerous protective injunctions for clients in fear.
In 2012 she passed her Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test and qualified as a practicing solicitor in January 2013.
Christine has now returned to the Family Law Department to specialise in Child Care Law. She is working towards the Law Society’s Children’s Panel Accreditation. She has recently completed a course in Care Proceedings and is fully competent in the new Pilot Practice Direction 36C which support new laws requiring Care Proceedings to be completed in 26 weeks.
In January 2017, Christine was appointed Manager of the Family Department based at our offices in Havant.
She represents parents, children and grandparents when the Local Authority becomes involved with children.
She undertakes her own advocacy whenever possible and is in regular attendance at Portsmouth Family Court.
Christine is a member of Resolution and the Family Law Bar Association.
