An excellent opportunity has arisen for a panel accredited fee earner to work in our Mental Health team.

Swain & Co Solicitors is a successful and well established legal practice based, primarily, on the South Coast.  We have been practicing mental health law for many years and have a large client base across the country.

We are looking to expand so that we can continue to assist those most in need and provide advice and representation in all aspects of Mental Health Law.

The mental health department at Swain & Co prides itself on excellence and is dynamic and driven with the emphasis on empowering people to make positive change.

The successful candidate must be a current member of the Law Society’s Mental Health Accreditation Scheme and will be required to undertake advocacy and all types of work in Mental Health Tribunals.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced fee earner to provide advice and representation in all aspects of Medical Negligence Law.

The successful candidate would ideally be a current member of the Law Society Clinical Negligence Accreditation panel or be willing to undertake accreditation.

Person Specification:

  • 2 years PQE or relevant pre-qualification experience
  • Law Society Accreditation or eligibility to join a scheme desirable
  • Experience in advocacy work and caseload in Clinical Negligence cases
  • Demonstrable commitment to teamwork and leadership potential
  • Track record of developing a caseload and client care skills
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude

Title Mental Health Law – Paralegal

Swain & Co Solicitors are currently seeking a highly talented and enthusiastic individual to join their Mental Health Law department based in our Southampton office.

Assisting in both private and publicly funded mattered related to Mental Health Law, including but not limited to:

  • Representing at first Tier Mental Health Tribunal;
  • Assisting clients with all matters concerning the Mental Health Act 1983;

Main responsibilities of the role will include but not limited to;

  • Legal casework in Mental Health Law;
  • Attending clients, taking instructions and preparing cases;
  • Dealing with correspondence;
  • Maintaining accurate time costing procedures;
  • Implementing any recommendations made by the supervisor following monthly file reviews ensuring that these are dealt with promptly.

This is a full-time role which offers excellent training and career prospects.

Experience and Attributes

  • The successful individual is likely to have:
  • Gained some experience in a Mental Health Law team (but this is not essential);
  • A law degree or CILEx qualification
  • The ability to work unsupervised (after training),
  • Good self-motivational skills, and;
  • Be reliable
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Be proficient in the use of Microsoft applications.
