A report by MP’s claims The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has a ‘long way to go’ as a regulator, despite the recent improvements.
The report highlighted many previously reported criticisms, such as the lack of inspections carried out, failure to replace key members and the discontinuation of the whistleblowers helpline.
Specialist community care lawyer Kelly Evans, of Swain & Co. solicitors, welcomes the report saying, ‘It highlights issues we have all seen before, following BBC’s Panorama programme of Winterbourne View residential home. Improvements need to be made to develop community care we can all trust in.”
Graeme Swain, a specialist clinical negligence lawyer at Swain & Co. goes on to say “the report concluded that the CQC had failed to provide quality and safe care for people. The case of Winterbourne View was a prime example of this, and a clear case of clinical negligence.”
