It’s Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is stress.
The week is focused around the question ‘Are we coping?’
We have asked our wonderful staff for their top tips in coping with stress.
So, here are our top 5 tips to help cope with stress.
01. Look after yourself
Eating well, exercising and taking time out for yourself. By looking after yourself inside with the right food, it can radiate goodness from inside out. Exercise can take your mind away from the stress, and also help use up adrenaline caused by worry. And practicing mindfulness in taking time out for yourself.
When you are stressed, creating something can work wonders for your mental health. Our staff enjoy baking, crocheting, knitting, cross stitching and scrapbooking to name a few. Get creative and take your mind away from stresses of work and everyday life. When you look back at what you have created, it will give you a great sense of achievement.
03. Get organised
List, lists and more lists. When juggling work, family, pets, staff etc, you can never be organised enough. Breaking tasks up into smaller chunks also helps. That way when you write a ‘to-do’ list, you get great satisfaction of crossing them off when completed.
Another distraction technique – you could lose yourself down a rabbit hole, follow the twist and turns of a thriller, or learning something new. One of our staff has recommend the book ‘The Chimp Paradox’. It helped her to understand her own mind. Great advice!
And finally, as with all mental health tips, we all find talking helps. A problem shared is a problem halved and all that. Many of us enough time with friends chatting, or have a close family member or friend who is our go to when we feel stressed. Some of us even write it down. As writing it releases it from the mind and it is there in black and white. Just do not bottle it up – share it.
