New UK Prime Minister - No change at the top for the NHS
With the announcement of the new UK Prime Minister, Melanie Lidstone-Land, medical negligence lawyer, takes a look at what this means for our beloved NHS, for the short term at least:
“The Rt Hon Matt Hancock has retained his position at the head of the NHS in Boris Johnson’s new cabinet.
He has been responsible, amongst other things, for the overall financial control and oversight of NHS delivery and performance since he accepted the position in July 2018.
The Conservative Party have for a long time now promised reforms of the NHS. Their loudest claim is the provision of funds for Mental Health services and attempts to cut waiting times for referrals and non-urgent operative procedures.
We have not seen any real evidence of this.
And I have to say that I am still receiving many enquiries relating to stark failures in both of these areas.
More worryingly, perhaps is the close relationship that Mr Johnson wishes to forge with US President, Donald Trump.
And, the frightening headlines relating to the NHS being “on the table” for discussions between the UK and US leaders!
What difference will any of this make to you and I, the people that rely on the NHS day to day to look after us and our families? I rather suspect nothing in the short term because it will, no doubt, take some time for the new cabinet to “bed in”. But, perhaps, at least the NHS has been offered some form of consistency by retaining Mr Hancock in it’s top position.
What I know for sure is that it will not make any difference to the team of Medical Negligence lawyers at Swain & Co Solicitors.
We will continue to offer you the best possible service, strive for answers and work tirelessly to achieve fair compensation for you."
