Emma Yemm is a Trainee Lawyer working in Swain & Co Solicitors Community Care/Court of Protection department at our Southampton office.
Emma graduated from the University of Winchester in 2011 while working as an assistant venue manager for the University’s Student Union.
After graduation, Emma started working at Citizens Advice Gosport as a Volunteer Advisor, helping the general public on matters relating to debt, benefits, consumer and employment issues before then also becoming the Finance and Administration Officer.
Emma was then employed as the Money Advice Matters Caseworker after working for 2 years as the finance officer. She was able to again experience advising clients who are at a risk of homelessness and helping them manage their finances. Emma supported clients to help themselves as well as taking action to draft budgets, negotiate with creditors and provide financial education on managing household bills and debt.
Before starting work with us, Emma worked at another local firm as a fee earning Paralegal in 2016. Here Emma advised and supported clients admitted to hospital under the Mental Health Act, to help prepare them appeal their admissions at tribunals. She represented clients at Hospital Manager Hearings and CPA meetings and liaised with professionals to ensure aftercare was provided to our clients' post discharge.
Emma started work in our housing department but is now solely working in the Community Care and Court of Protection department. She assists clients in accessing support from social services under the Care Act 2014 as well as Continuing Healthcare provided by the NHS.
In her spare time Emma enjoys keeping fit and has been part of a local dance and cheer team in her hometown for over 2 years, competing around the country. Currently, these Masters teams are champions!
